- So, why is creativity important to you? Creativity gives one the edge. A creative mind can figure a way out, a way to advance, move around, excel. A creative mind can envision joy in almost any challenge. A creative mind figures out how to turn the lemon into lemonade. Creativity makes the difference between landing that job, selling that product, making that million dollars or not. Steve Jobs shared: "If you're gonna make connections which are innovative ... you have to not have the same bag of experiences as everyone else does." Thinking creatively means my house is a ray of vibrant colors evoking happiness in my family's demeanor; it means working smarter not harder; it means having the edge on the person who says "because that's the way we've always done it;" it means, succeeding and getting promotions in business by just doing my job (well).
- How do you see creativity in yourself? Literally, I am staring at a rich blue wall highlighted with a vibrant yellow sunflower framed with orange, yellow and red which I painted. My home is architecturally configured with skewed walls (no square box) and every wall is a different color to evoke happiness. Front doors to my home have Kokopellis on them solely because I saw them as joyous figures.
I see it in combining a doctoral capstone project with passions friends thought I was crazy to combine. I see it in combining and climbing careers and degrees in modeling, fashion, instructional design, and real estate (staging) because they all encompass one central theme: design... of which creativity is a must!
- How do you see creativity in your work environment?"No" or "can't" is not an option. How else can we do it better? Thinking creatively is essential to making things happen. Whether we're talking about customer service or student success, there's ALWAYS a way to make it happen. Thinking creatively gets me there. I combined physical fitness with writing a grant for Fitbits to increase retention for our students.
I combined gaming in education with a profound cause fighting for children’s rights and giving back to the community at the same time.
Creativity means thinking out of the box to skew the walls, add color and make things happen!

I find it very interesting that you correlate creativity with success. There are other things you need to be successful (i.e., intelligence, work-ethic, and so on), but I agree one of those characters required to be successful is creativity.

Ah, so right, Dr. Justice! HARD WORK, intelligence, work ethic, being in the right place at the right time, credentials, networking, hard work (oh, did I say that one?) and elements like hard work are some of the many other attributes it takes to be successful. :)
